Leo Tolstoy on God

LEO TOLSTOY ON GOD: "When you look inside yourself, you see what is called 'your own self' or your soul. You cannot touch it or see it or understand it, but you know it is there. And this part of yourself--that which you cannot understand--is what is called God. God is both around us and inside of us--in our souls.

The more you understand that you are at one with God, the more you will understand that you are at one with all His worldly manifestations."

How Living Of the World CAN and DOES Enslave us ALL!

The Christmas Season is fully upon us. Despite the current state of the economy, you can bet that there are millions of people still intent on acquring the "holiness" of Christmas by going from store
to store to buy "gifts" for family and friends.

Many also will seek to outdo their neighbors in terms of the outdoor lighting displays they will have. They have to be the "best" on the block, bad economy or not.

How did we all become such slaves to the world and its ways?

Ponder this recent news report:

"In 2006 and 2007, Jocelyn Kirsch, 23, a former Drexel University student, and then-boyfriend Edward Anderton, 25, stole the identities of friends and neighbors, pilfering more than $116,000 before they got caught.

(In October 2008) Kirsh was sentenced Friday to five years in prison and ordered to pay more than $100,000 in restitution.

Kirsch and Anderton used the money for expensive salon visits, exotic vacations and fancy dinners. The scheme unraveled when an employee at an upscale salon told police that a check for Kirsch's $2,250 hair extension job had bounced."

Why would people in their mid-20s act this way and destroy their lives?

They learned the key ingredients to be perceived as successful in the world and they went after those, instead of focusing on their studies. They wanted the trimmings of success...and fast! If they had bothered to look around, they would have seen that life got no easier for them with the "things" they were accumulating. As a matter of fact, they kept on doing what they did because they needed more...and more... to feel good about their pursuits!

It is human nature to reach for more. Stagnation is death. However, the reason so many pursue that form of "growth" is to get that "feeling" of being perceived as "successful" and "prosperous."

No one is inherently evil. I believe we all start out with a sense of order and goodness, but as we become exposed to the "ways" of the world, we make choices that corrupt our very souls.

Some people start out wanting to do good. Then it becomes easier to do bad to get ahead. There's that saying I used to hear, "Good people finish last!"

Many people think that "goodness" and "kindness" are weak traits that they don't want to have. They believe that "power" and "might," no matter how corrupt they become in the process, are the ways to achieve status in the world.

So, they "sell" out and become strangers to themselves.

Step by step they give away a little bit of themselves to the world to be perceived as "powerful" in some way! God forbid should they EVER be seen as "good" or "kind!"

Good people: Please STAND UP!

Remember well: What you think of ME is none of MY business; it's all about YOU!

Remember this, too: The more we give away of ourselves to fit with the world, the more we lose.

"You can gain the whole world and lose your soul!"

When you lose THAT, then you truly have lost everything!

The crisis, which is inevitable, then strikes.

Then comes the introspection and the examination of how we wound up here.

The picture isn't pretty. But we have to look.

It is by looking and seeking and asking for help and guidance that we can return fully to what we lost inside.

It is then that we begin the slow walk back to wholeness.

Many do it from the bars of a prison cell, like Kirsch and Anderton.

Choose wisely your path! Don't be blinded by the WAYS of the world!

Namaste',

Che'

NOTE: The situation we see currently playing out in Illinois with the Democratic Governor, Rod Blagojevich, further highlights this issue.

OUTSTANDING. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT AND AM SO HAPPY TO READ OF THIS TIMELY BLOG. AT FIRST I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO EXPOUND ON "STUFF" BUT IN ESSENCE YOU DID.
YOU KNOW I AM PRESENTLY DOWNSIZING "STUFF", BUT IT MEANS VERY LITTLE TO ME, AND AS I PACK AND REPACK PLASTIC CONTAINERS, I HAVE IN THE BACK OF MY HEAD "IF IT GETS TO WHERE I CAN'T PAY THE STORAGE, OH WELL".
I AM ON MY WAY TO WHOLENESS FROM A PLACE OF HELL ON EARTH. IT HAS BEEN 10 YEARS SINCE I WAS THERE, AND I AM STILL HEALING. ONLY GOD KNOWS WHAT I HAVE BEEN THROUGH AND WHAT IS LEFT TO HEAL WITH PLEASANT BALM OF PEACE AND CONTENTMENT.
AND THAT IS WHAT I FEEL AND KNOW IS IN STORE FOR ME THIS SEASON, PEACE AND CONTENTMENT.
"And the peace of God which passes all understanding shall guard your heart and mind".
