Leo Tolstoy on God

LEO TOLSTOY ON GOD: "When you look inside yourself, you see what is called 'your own self' or your soul. You cannot touch it or see it or understand it, but you know it is there. And this part of yourself--that which you cannot understand--is what is called God. God is both around us and inside of us--in our souls.

The more you understand that you are at one with God, the more you will understand that you are at one with all His worldly manifestations."

With All Things...In All Ways: Keep the Balance!

If you were to listen to the pharmaceutical companies, you'd be popping pills, made of synthetics, all day.

If you listen to the herbalists, you'd be popping pills, extracted directly from plants, all day.

If you listen to your doctor, you'd be having body scans, head scans, foot scans and breast scans every week.

If you listen to your Soul, you'd want and need none of this.

Mind, Body, Spirit.

That's what it's all about.

Keeping a balance among these three is a challenge.

But at any given time, you need do only ONE thing: Connect to the Soul within you for guidance.

It will tell you when you need...the body scan or the breast scan. It will tell you when you need the medication or the herb.

Although they pretend, doctors do not know everything even with the best of technology and other tools at their disposal.

They do not know the Soul of the person. They never will and never CAN treat that.

That is the Province of GOD! As a matter of fact, THAT IS GOD!

In this world we live in today, people believe they have to partake of every new thing, every new finding that comes on the market.

This is NOT so.

I saw Senator Jack Kemp recently died at age 73. I was saddened by the death of this Republican, because despite his party affiliation, I'd admired his seeming strength and "aura." I was shocked, actually, that he'd died so "young," as he always gave the impression that he was invincible. Similarly, I'm saddened by the image of Patrick Swayze, so perfect a human specimen, when he starred in "Dirty Dancing" and "Ghost." It seems almost a travesty to look at a picture of him now, emaciated, and with a bloated stomach.

UNREAL. UNREAL. UNREAL!

Yet, this is life and NO ONE can predict who will be immune from illnesses and pain and who will be swallowed up, sooner than we expect, by the ravages of the human experience.

"Discretion is the better part of valor!"

Those are wise words.

Don't go rushing around following the next "new, new thing," before you fully know its impact.

You've got to THINK THROUGH what all these new developments mean to YOU before you begin applying them.

Many years ago, the guideline we used to follow for our lives was:
"If it ain't broke, don't FIX IT!"

Now, with health care being PROFIT care, we are all led to believe we need to have checkups of our heart, lung, kidneys, ovaries, cavities. We need to keep a close watch on our calories, cholesterol, diet, weight and emotions. We need to get a husband, a wife, a great job, beautiful kids and perfect friends.

We need ALL THIS to be happy, and fit, and ...well!?

Well...we need...nothing.

What we need is GOD and our GOD connection.

Should we do this, i.e. connect to our very selves, our very Soul, whatever we need to live a satisfying life...(maybe not perfect in the eyes of the world)...will follow....

We will KNOW when we need to have a checkup.
We will KNOW when something is off kilter in our body...YES...before it is too late to save our lives.

Do you notice that doctors always say, "If you'd waited any longer...." Doctors, too, are now being forced to do "marketing!"

Where feasible, I believe in using natural cures for what ails me; it often is just as effective as medication. But in some cases, there are absolutely NO alternatives, and you have to take medication.

When that is the case, DO SO: Take your medication!

There are those who would constantly rile and rip apart medicine and medication.
The truth is that NONE of us would be enjoying the quality of life we currently are, if there were not advances in technology and in the pharamaceutical community and the medical world.

Polio vaccines save millions of lives each year.
You rarely hear of people dying of malaria, thyhoid or any types of fevers anymore.

These incidences did not just disappear.

As we grew in sophistication throughout the world, we have been able to make improvements in the day-to-day quality of our lives. The average life span has been expanded now to 76 years old for men and to 82 years old for women. Public health measures are credited with much of the recent increase in life expectancy. During the 20th century, the average lifespan in the United States increased by more than 30 years, 25 years of which can be attributed to advances in public health.

Everything comes at a cost, though.

Yes. We have compromised a part of our environment in order to improve the quality of lives.

Trees are disappearing. Some animals, birds, mammals are becoming extinct as a result of our "advancements" and "improvements."

The truth is that we, as mankind, have gotten careless with the ways and the reasons we do certain things and make certain improvements.

But going back to living the lives of "quiet desperation" of 100 years ago is not the answer either.

For every benefit, there is an equal risk or compromise we must make in life. THAT is the reality of life. But ultimately, it is the BALANCE we strike in compromise that will lead us to our "GO(O)D."

The decision about doing or not doing a certain thing has to come from individuals making conscious decisions moment by moment as to how to proceed.

All questions must be asked before a decision to put a community of animals, birds and mammals at risk. All sides must be weighed and all alternatives examined.

We, as mankind, DO have a responsibility to the lower groups of life. But ultimately, too, we have a responsibility to ourselves and our God!

"For the kingdom of heaven is as a man...who called his servants and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one. To everyone to his several ability." Matthew 25: 14-15

Like the three servants who were given the talents and expected to put it to work to serve their master, we also have a responsibility to improve upon the quality of life from the society into which we were born. We must do so by weighing the Mental, Physical and Spiritual.

If we look carefully, every generation of people is given a new task, a new charter.

For some generations way before us, the task was how to feed the growing population: How can we ensure the survival of the species with enough food and water to drink?

For others after those, it was how to stop the massive number of deaths from common illnesses and diseases.

We currently are sharing the earth with multiple generations alive in one family, thanks to all the work of those generations before us.

Many babies being born today may know not only their immediate grandparents, but their grandparents parents. Some may even get to meet their grandparents' parents' parents.

With these privileges then, we have got to each step back and take SOME responsibility for being HERE NOW!

What is YOUR Role to play, as an inhabitant of Planet Earth?

In large part, most people are fully unconscious to any reason for being alive, other than to enjoy the FRUITS of their labor. Some are so unconscious, that they are only living for the next "new, new thing!"

But there are many who also are awakening to the TRUTH of life.

They know they are HERE NOW for a reason and for a purpose beyond their own selfish pursuits. They ARE awake that they have a responsibility to themselves to become the best they know how to be and also to look beyond the circumference of their face and see into the eyes of their neighbor, their friend, their community and the world.

With that awakening, a critical mass is being reached and there is a resurgence of caring and sharing.

It was my generation and those of my parents and Barack Obama's parents that listened to a man state: "I have a dream that one day..."

Consciousness was raised enough that enough of those parents and grandparents raised their kids with an openness to believe in the equality of ALL people and where "white men and black men and brown men and yellow men could come together."

We were witnesses in November 2008 to what happens when Consciousness is raised in each generation.

The current generation of 18 year olds, turned the United States upside down on its head by leading their elders to elect the first Black President of the United States.

We should not wait for the generation after Sasha's and Malia's to examine and execute change in the way we balance our responsibility to the environment, healthcare, and personal care. We can raise that Consciousness NOW!

We each have that responsibility to ourselves and to each other.

The secret is to CARE enough and to remember to Keep the Balance With ALL Things...in ALL Ways...in our daily walk.

Namaste',
