Leo Tolstoy on God

LEO TOLSTOY ON GOD: "When you look inside yourself, you see what is called 'your own self' or your soul. You cannot touch it or see it or understand it, but you know it is there. And this part of yourself--that which you cannot understand--is what is called God. God is both around us and inside of us--in our souls.

The more you understand that you are at one with God, the more you will understand that you are at one with all His worldly manifestations."

Super Bowl XLIV: New Orleans Rising Like a "Bridge" Over Troubled Water!

Today I sing Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water"*:

"When darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down"

The resilience of the human Spirit!

The resilience of people and places!

The glory of God!

These are all the thoughts that flood my mind, as I see the New Orleans Saints' players head to Miami to compete with the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV.

I know that the Colts worked hard to get there, too, but who can blame the residents of Indianapolis if they root and toot for New Orleans to win!

This year's Super Bowl event is more than sport. It is a call to the Spirit.

Win or lose, just the mere fact that the Saints are present at this year's National Football League's main annual event is already a win for New Orleans.

We probably all had counted the city out when in 2005 the flood waters from Katrina overrode its banks, sweeping 1,865 to their deaths and leaving thousands more homeless and bereft and having to move to any part of the country that would take them in.

But New Orleans has risen and the Saints' presence on the Super Bowl XLIV roster is testimony to the indomitable Spirit within all people and places.

This makes me know that in just about five years, too, we'll be celebrating some event in Haiti. The Haitians, too, will rise again.

It is my hope that the people of Haiti take comfort from the folks in New Orleans and see the beaconing of the Light to follow its path.

When life gets tough, we so badly want to give in and give up.

We so badly want to chuck it all in.

But what is life, if not a process of growth?

What is life, if not a journey back to wholeness ...to.. the Soul?

What is life, if its streets are all paved with Gold and has no potholes?

Indeed what is life, if it contributes nothing to the growth towards our Soul?

As much as football and other sports can be entertaining, we did not come into this world for recreation.

Every act we take, every path we follow is to meant to lead us to one place and one place only: back to our Soul!

No matter how fraught with bramble, bushes, broken dreams and heartaches life may be, the journey has one purpose only: evolution of the Soul.

Some may walk the Earth dressed in silks, others in linen.
Yet others in sackcloths.

Some may be dripping in diamonds, others may carry
coal to stay warm.

The truth is that both groups have the same destination.

It is the journey home...to the Soul.

New Orleans is rising again, just about five years since Hurricane Katrina, ripped it apart.

The scars are being covered over now. The scabs few can see.

Yet, within, the city knows what it knows.

The Spirit of the city is that much stronger, that much sturdier, that much more preserved from the elements... without.

Yes, this Super Bowl XLIV is a redemption of the Soul...of New Orleans.

Go Saints!

Take the ball to the victory line. You and your people deserve to carry the TROPHY, not only for football...but for LIFE!

As the Saints march into Miami's Sun Life Stadium today, I'll be singing Louis Armstrong:

..."O when the Saints go marching in
When the Saints go marching in
O Lord I want to be in that number
When the Saints go marching in..."

*******************************************
PostScript:"If God is for you (us), who or what can be against you (us)!" Romans 8:31

Final Score: Saints :31 Colts: 17
That last Touchdown was the
Parting of the the RED SEA!!!
New Orleans is INDEED BACK!!!
Only GOD!
*************************************

It's gonna be your time next year, Colts.
Give God the GLORY NOW!!!

Namaste',
